OpenToll is your solution for hassle-free toll payments. Simply register your vehicle's license plate, and you can effortlessly manage and pay your FUTURE tolls online, skipping the toll booths entirely.

No, OpenToll is an independent service. We're not affiliated with I-PASS or the Illinois Tollway. OpenToll's goal is to simplify your toll payments without the need for a physical transponder.

OpenToll covers all roads where I-PASS (Illinois Tollway) is accepted.

Absolutely! You can link up to 5 vehicles to your single OpenToll account. Each vehicle's tolls will be tracked individually, with payments drawn from your main balance. Need more? Just reach out to our customer support!

Currently, no. OpenToll does not support rental vehicles or temporary license plates at this time.

Yes, you can! OpenToll supports motorcycles, trucks, and trailers, provided they have a valid, permanent license plate. For trailer owners, we recommend registering both your vehicle and the trailer. This helps ensure accurate billing, as the Toll Authority might occasionally post trailer charges to the towing vehicle if the trailer's plate isn't clearly visible.

OpenToll is designed to manage your future toll payments. Any existing unpaid tolls or violations need to be settled directly with the Illinois Tollway. Once your OpenToll account is active, we'll help you avoid future issues!

With an active OpenToll account in good standing, you shouldn't receive mail invoices for future tolls. If you do get one, it typically means the toll charges were incurred before your OpenToll account was opened, your account had insufficient funds to cover the charge, or your license plate registration was rejected by the Toll Authority. In such cases, please pay the invoice directly through the Toll Authority's website.

OpenToll displays your road trip information as soon as it's made available by the Toll Authority, which usually takes less than 7 days. Don't worry about the delay – the Toll Authority won't send you a late payment notice during this processing period.

We recommend depositing enough to cover your anticipated toll usage for at least a month. For occasional drivers, $20-$30 is usually sufficient. Daily commuters might consider $50-$100, depending on their typical routes.

Yes, your deposit is refundable! If your license plate registration is rejected by the Toll Authority for a brand new account, we'll refund 100% of your deposit within 7 days. For other accounts, your deposit can be refunded up to 120 days, with the amount adjusted for any toll road charges posted by the Toll Authority and OpenToll processing fees.

You'll pay the exact toll road charges posted by the Toll Authority, plus a 15% convenience fee.

OpenToll keeps you informed every step of the way! We send notifications via email and/or SMS (your choice) for key events, including:
  • Successful license plate registration
  • New toll charges incurred
  • Low account balance alerts
  • Payment processing confirmations
You can easily customize your notification preferences within your account settings.

Simply log into your OpenToll account and deregister the license plate. You'll be responsible for all toll road trips up until the day of deregistration, with charges applied as soon as they are posted by the Toll Authority.
